Student Life

Arrival & Orientation

Travel to Europe is an exciting adventure – especially if it’s your first time. Our on-site staff is available to help students plan their intercontinental journey. All our students will receive detailed information about what to do on arrival day and how to reach our campus so as to make their journey as smooth as possible.

There is an airport pick-up on arrival day for our Semester and One Year program students only.

On arrival day, students are welcomed at the Accademia where they will have time to rest, take a stroll in the hills surrounding our campus, or walk into town.

All of our programs begin with a comprehensive orientation that covers local customs, housing details, health & safety information, best practices for overseas safety, and introduces students to our staff and faculty.

Support System

The Office of Student Services offers an ongoing and reassuring support system for our students while allowing participants ample freedom to gain the maximum level of personal growth during their time abroad. The Accademia dell’Arte offers a variety of classes & activities that help students gain meaningful global perspective while making a difference in the world.

Throughout our programs, our staff hold extensive daily office hours and are available to offer assistance with personal issues that are common when studying abroad as well as help planning trips or getting to understand Italian culture.  We also offer a safe space to reflect on goals, discuss any challenges, and ensure that all students feel comfortable and safe in their programs.

The Director of Student Services as well as Program Coordinators and the entire faculty serve as advocates and advisors, offering support, guidance, and encouragement, while acting as liaisons between students and their home institutions.

Diversity Equity & Inclusion

At the Accademia dell’Arte, we have a strong commitment to creating an inclusive community. Diversity, equity and inclusion are primary values here. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable, respectful, and welcoming culture. Our main aim is to engage students, faculty, staff, and the greater community in a partnership of learning grounded in the liberal arts, based on respect for diversity and inclusion. We are committed to implementing sustainable policies, initiatives, and programming to increase and maintain diversity and ensure inclusion among Accademia dell’Arte students, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni.

Health & Safety

The Student Life Coordinator lives on campus.

On-site staff is always available should our students need help.

24/7 Emergency contact service is available.

Experienced on-site staff provides personal care and attention.

Experienced on-site staff maintains close ties with local authorities, monitors public announcements and travel warnings issued by Italian, European and U.S. authorities.

Experienced on-site staff can also provide understanding and translation with medical professionals, police, and the like, as well as a supportive environment.

As part of our commitment to safety, our students are asked to fill out an Overnight Stay Form whenever they plan to not spend nights on campus so that our staff is able to contact all students when necessary.

Cultural Differences

Culture shock is experienced by almost everyone travelling abroad, not only first-time travellers. Cultural differences may make you feel out of place at first. One thing that may discourage you in the beginning is the language barrier but, generally speaking, Italians are very helpful and will try to help you if you are trying to speak Italian.

Our staff hold extensive daily office hours and are available to offer assistance with personal issues that are common when studying abroad as well as helping understand Italian culture.

Housing

The Accademia is located in the medieval town of Arezzo just south of Florence.

Students will be living in a modernized sixteenth century villa, which houses our academic, residential, studio, and performance spaces.

Events & Excursions

The Accademia dell’Arte offers an active calendar of events and excursions (the latter only for our One Year & Semester program students).

These activities encourage social interaction between students, contributing to the creation of a vibrant ensemble while fostering greater cross-cultural competency and a deeper understanding of the members of our community.

Cell Phones

As a safety measure, all Accademia dell’Arte students are advised to have a working cell phone number where they can be reached in case of an emergency. Students are welcome to arrange their own cell phone or our on-site staff can help students to select and purchase the best deal on Italian SIM cards.
